Chimu Adventures Cruises

Sea Spirit

About Chimu Adventures Cruises

Founded by two Australian travelers in 2004 as a tailor-made travel service for clients traveling to South America, Chimu Adventures expanded to include cruises to the Amazon, the Galapagos, Antarctica and the Arctic. Chimu uses other cruise lines' ships and either sells space on those ships or charters an entire ship for a Chimu-only sailing. Because of this, the type of experience you have -- including how in-depth the cultural and wildlife immersions are -- can vary widely by itinerary and vessel.

Chimu Adventures Cruises Tips, Activities, and Overview

Who goes on Chimu Adventures cruise ships?

Chimu passengers come from all over the world and fall into all age ranges. They are attracted to the line's focus on South and Central America, as well as Antarctica and the Arctic, prefer the small ship experience and seek a mix of "the road less traveled" as well as major highlights.

The passenger mix varies with the individual cruise ship and the destination, though many come from Australia, the company's base.

Do I have to dress up on a Chimu Adventures cruise?

In general, no. However, the company books space on such a variety of ships, some of which are much dressier than others. You'll need to check out the particular ship on your itinerary for dress code details.

Is everything free on Chimu Adventures cruises?

With a number of cruise ships offered in several regions, what's included is not the same on every trip. In general, shore excursions by Zodiac, transfers to the pier, an expedition parka and use of rubber boots are included, while a pre-cruise hotel night may be part of the package.

Expect to pay extra for alcoholic beverages, Wi-Fi (if available), laundry and gratuities. Certain experiences during the cruise also cost extra including kayaking, show shoeing and camping out.

What are Chimu Adventures’s most popular activities?

Nature and wildlife are the stars of Chimu Adventures cruises to the Arctic, Antarctica, and South America's Amazon and Galapagos. Shore excursions by Zodiac, kayak or skiff are what its cruises are all about.

Why go with Chimu Adventures?

  • Offers expeditions in Antarctica, the Arctic and Latin America
